Masato Koda is a Professor at Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Tsukuba, and is the former Chairman of Department of Social Systems and Management. Prior to joining University of Tsukuba in 1998, he was with IBM Research, Tokyo Research Laboratory, and managed several research groups as a senior manager and consulted with the Japanese government and private companies. During 1988 and 1989, he was assigned and worked at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center.
Dr. Koda received his BS and Dr. Eng. in Aeronautics and Astronautics both from the University of Tokyo in 1971 and 1976, respectively. He was on the faculty of California Institute of Technology from 1976 till 1978, and an Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo from 1978 through 1982. His current research interests emphasize innovative methods of data mining and knowledge discovery, which include stochastic optimization and sensitivity analysis of mining models, and stochastic learning algorithms in supervised learning. He has been a member of the New York Academy of Sciences since 1997, and listed in the Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering from 1998 and in the Marquis Who's Who in the World from 2002. Since 2001, Dr. Koda serves as a Contributing Editor to the International Abstracts in OR. He is Vice-President and Fellow of the Operations Research Society of Japan.
